全面理解gross这个词:

 

我们常说的GDP,G就是Gross这个词,表示总共的,总和的。

 

Such data offers gross support of contemporary models of memory that assume an input-output balance.

gross support,全面的支持,gross在这里也是总和总共的含义。

 

For example, they do not compensate for gross social inequality, and thus do not tell how able an underprivileged youngster might have been had he grown up under more favorable circumstances.

gross social inequality, 严重的社会不公。

 

gross还有一个有趣的含义:

144 个,十二进制数,我们熟悉的 dozen (一打) 是 12 个,而 a gross of 就是 12 x 12,即 144 个。

例:

例:

例:
He abused the Admiral in the grossest terms.

例:
